Ballyloughnane, Ogonnelloe was the route of our last guided walk with our Active Agers.
Starting at the beautiful and historic St. Mary’s Church, we walked from Ballyloughnane through Ballybran where we enjoyed fantastic views of Lough Derg below us and the beautiful Arra hills of Tipperary. Continuing down to the main Scariff to Killaloe road, we continued back to the Piper’s Inn along the footpath which was developed by the community in Ogonnelloe. Walking parallel to the lake, you really get to appreciate the beauty of East Clare. A very welcome fresh scone with tea/coffee in the Piper’s Inn provided enough energy to continue the final 2.5km uphill to our starting point of St. Mary’s Church.
This looped walk, which is approximately 9.5km will be launched in the coming month by Clare Walks Ltd. With financial assistance from Killaloe Municipal District (Clare County Council), repair works have been carried out on parts of this route to make it suitable for walkers. Watch this space!
