Guided Walk in Portumna

This will be slightly different from our regular walks, but a great walk has been organised for us by one of our regular walkers, Peter Martin.

We will meet up at the Waterways Ireland offices in Portumna at 10.30am, and walk to the bridge which is due to open at 11am.

There is a viewing platform where we can see the mechanism in action. This bridge is the last remaining metal bridge of its type in Europe.

From here we will walk along the river bank, past the swimming area, to Portumna Castle, where we will enjoy a guided tour of the Castle Organic garden with Lynn the chief gardener. This will end at 1.30 approx.

At this point, walkers can visit the coffee shop for lunch, get a tour of the Castle (included in the price), or return to the start point (approx 30 minute walk).

This is an 8km walk following footpath, river bank and road.

€5pp which covers entrance to the Castle grounds and all talks.
